I want to replace an existing 1 gang light switch.

The existing switch has two wires combined into M and one wire into L1.

The new has L1 and L - which do I put from the old into the new.

Left = old / Right = new

Thank you so much for the help!

How many terminals does the new switch have? If it is a 1 way switch it will probably have just 2 terminals.
It looks as if the wiring is looped into the switch so you should simply connect the same two wires that are in the "com" terminal to one of the terminals on the new switch and the wire from the L1 terminal to the other.
If the new switch is a 2-way and has three terminals use Com and L2.

I would say the two wires going into M on the old switch will go to L on the new switch.
The single wire going to L1 on the old will go to L1 on the new.

Thanks all for the replies, the new switch is just a nicer switch.

The new switch only has two terminals, L1 and L.

Do you know that or educated guess? Thank you!

The old switch has two terminals, the new switch has two terminals.
Just make sure that the two wires that are in one terminal on the old switch are also in one terminal on the new switch and the other wire is in the other terminal.

Impossible to know anything for sure without actually being there, but based on the labels on the new switch, I'm pretty sure it will work exactly as intended.

I take it that's a dimmer switch?
The lights in the room are suitable for dimming, yes?

Good point!! However will it not matter if they are in the wrong terminals?

Here is a better photo of the existing switch terminals

It shouldn't matter which way round you do it but the way I said above is the convention.

Just make sure the two that are currently joined together stay together in the new switch.
And the one that's on its own stays on its own in the other terminal.
Job done.
