I have brought a 1 gang smart switch to replace a 1 gang traditional light switch. My wiring has two brown wires. In the old switch, one brown goes into the Common, and the other into L1.

For the life of me I can’t figure out how these two wires should go into the new smart switch. I’ve tried different combos - ‘common’ wire into Neutral and L1 into L, also common into L and the other into Neutral. These combos gives the switch power but when I press the switch the light only flickers on and turns itself off.

What am I doing wrong?

Needs an extra wire neutral to N and then one brown in L and other L1 which will matter but it did not with old switch so line in to L and line out to L1, personally I would test, but trial and error should work, only two options.

The two brown wires are L and L1 on the new switch.

However that switch also needs a neutral to function, which are the blue wires in the separate connector.

Thank you flameport! Your kindly shared advice has helped me to resolve a problem. Much appreciated. All the best.
