Hi I'm fitting metal light switches through out house Inc kitchen I've removed switch cover and found that the back box is plastic without an earth is it possible to take earthwire direct to back of switch? If not how can this be done

If the switches are metal they will have an earth terminal.

If you have a metal box most people consider it good practice to also connect the earth terminal on that to the switch one.

I take it you do have earth cores in the cables?

yes I'm aware the metal switches have a earth post prob is the back box is plastic with no earth post the existing cable do's have an earth

Ok sounds the best do you know if this a recognised practice as I'm starting in the kitchen and do not want any nasty shocks if you know what i mean

If the back box is plastic then there is no requirement to earth it. On the other hand a metallic switch plate must be earthed.

ok thats great many thanks all i've got to do now is try and pull down some more cable to reach the switch plate should not be to much prob i hope as its a bungalow thanks once again
