would a garage type consumer with rcd and a couple of mcbs still be needed to install just lighting in a garage/shed or could the cable go directly to a the light switch,in another thread i saw that tncs equipotentiol bonding needs to be taken into account,yet other threads on wiring garages/sheds don't mention it.

If you just want a light then (without seeing the job or the characteristics/environment which may influence this desicion) I would probably be inclined to take a small SWA to a metal clad switched spur in the shed and feed the light from here.
