this is a genuine question. I do not have a magic ball so that is why I asked in the first place. :x

Neither do we have a magic ball.

When did the lights stop working?

Had any work (and I mean any, not just electrical) been done anywhere in the house just before?

OK.
Lets go back to basics.

Do you have separate circuits for the upstairs and downstairs lights?

Have you checked the fuse or circuit breaker on the upstairs lights?

Classic pathetic idiots like you and jarvis2 deciding to have a go at me for posting the "crystal ball" picture (sometime, if you can scrape together a long enough attention span, which I know will be a real challenge for you, you might like to see how often other people do the same, and/or use the "It's anybody's guess" one), ignoring the fact that I then did ask about whether any work might have caused the failure and ignoring the fact that TTC asked incredibly insulting questions.

You are such petty little children, aren't you.

who cares what you think, go back to w**king fat boy.

.

Those questions were not meant to be insulting. Nor were they in anyway sarcastic.

To my mind mariepoole was an inexperienced DIYer and my questions were to firstly try and establish if he/she had done what us "experts" would do as the very first step. They were the questions that anyone would ask their granny if she phoned up with non-functioning lights.

It seems that at least some of us remember that this is supposed to be a DIY forum.

TTC - it beggars belief that anybody would lose their upstairs lights, think "durr...", and go to the trouble of registering on a DIY forum to ask a group of remote people what the problem was without first checking the fuse/MCB.

Inexperienced DIYer?

You'd need to be someone who needed round-the-clock care to be so stupid as to not check the CU!

who cares what you think
You apparently do, because you criticised me for it.

Or is it that you are a mindless, vindictive ****, driven by such an utterly irrational desire to have a go at me that you'll do it even though you don't actually care about what I've written?
