thinking of putting one of those limescale inhibitors on my incoming supply , whats the general view of these things , we are in a hard water area so would it be usefull for making our appliances last a bit longer etc

They don't work.
Care to elaborate? Ion exchange and phosphate dosing ones certainly do work....
That's not a recommendation by the way, just a rebuttal to Tibbot's somewhat blunt statement.
