Hi,

I am laying a limestone hearth this weekend. I have a few questions that I'm not quite clear on...

1.) Using black limestone 30mm flags. They are going down on a concrete base (structural hearth). I had planned on using sand and cement base but I'm wondering if normal floor tile adhesive will do the job?

2.) Can I grout the joins with normal dark grey grout?

3.) I've read black limestone marks easily. I've been recommended LTP Colour Enhancer and Sealent. Should I apply this before I grout or after?

Any other advice very welcome!

Thanks.

since the limestone are black in colour then yes,sand/cement will do.
or

Bal PTB(pourable thick bed) adhesive... for slabs...

i also use Ardex bedding mortar also for large THICK slabs...as long as the slab is dark in colour.. ;)

you can seal before fixing if you wish..

but i would fix them first clean as you go..
then wash slabs down..
seal them..
grout them...
wash down..
seal again
polish...

there are also "grout protectors" as well you can apply before grouting to help stop scratching/etching/hazing..

just follow mfr instructions re:sealing etc...
seal again...
