Line of roof tiles fitted but sit up at the end - 1" or

We've had a build on the side and where the builder has put the new tiles to continue the roof there is a line of tiles fitted that are lifted about an inch or so from the tile it's next too? So as you look up at the roof you see a line of tiles from the guttering to the ridge tiles all slightly raised? The builder said the inspector asked for joints on both sides which I need to check if true but surely these joints wouldn't mean a noticeable gap? Any opinion appreciated.

I have never heard anything like that. It sounds as if the new rafters may be slightly low.

Has he used much thicker battens? Or the tiles are a different make and are not keen on interlocking to the old? Pic needed.
