Had a call today, they could only get hot water with the heating switched on. When I got there it was working fine, but just before I left it started playing up.

With heating off, when you open hot water tap, boiler fires, then quickly goes off, then on and off etc and the water goes down the flow and not to the taps. When the tap is then closed, it continues to do this. Even when switching boiler off on the boiler power button it continues to do this!!

I even switched the spur off and on and with the tap off it started to do the exact same thing. The only way to get it to stop is by unplugging the motorised valve from the pcb and plugging it back in again.

In central heating mode the boiler is fine, but the problems start again once the tap is opened.

I took a reading across terminals m11.1 and m11.3 with a tap open and it was 0v, but with tap closed it was 230v.

Apparently the diverter valve (springs o-rings and other bits) was replaced a couple of weeks ago when the problem first occured

Is this pcb or motorised valve?

Have you checked the diverter valve service kit is fitted correctly?

Its just a little difficult for me to understand exactly you you are describing but there is another current thread where I have posted an explanation of how the diverter motor operates.

Have a look at that and see what you think.

It sounds as if the motor actuator is faulty and its internal switches are not working. That is often as a result of the gland leaking and water getting into the diverter valve.

Surely it would be leaking if it wasnt? As far as I can tell its only a spring a couple of o-rings and a rod

Also, if it hepls, i took the motorised valve off and had a look.

The pin in the motorised valve was flush with the casing, and did not move in or out when hot tap was opened or closed. Could this be the problem?

I do think thats a posibility.

But that could be all sorts of things and the exact cause has to be diagnosed.

Ok, and if it hepls I was getting 230v on m11.1 and m11.3 with tap off and 0v with taps off

The thing that is puzzling me is why the boiler continued to fire and cycle when the boiler was switched off? And why in fact it would do this even when switched on with no demand for dhw or ch?

Any ideas how much the motorised valve is?

Also, just been looking at the MI's and it says "with no demand for dhw is the diverter valve in the dhw position"....now im guessing thats a no because it would be pushing against the rod which would mean it is chw mode....

no leads to ..."is there 230v across m11.1 and m11.3.." which there is...

A yes to this leads to....."check or replace diverter valve..." Now, do they in fact mean the motorised valve or do they actually mean replace the diverter valve, which was done a couple of weeks ago?
