Hi
My parent in laws arein the process of buying a bungalow with an attic conversion. When the conversion was done they didn't get building regs permission which they need to sell. They have applied for permission but need to have a lintel put in above the middle structual wall. The ceilings in the front room and kitchen both slope towards this wall. The lintel was slid through the wall along the wall. Could someone shed some light on this as i am a little confused. They tried to get a copy of the plans submitted to the council but they said they couldn't due to copyright (new to me). Unfortunatley i work away so am stuck a little.
Thanks
Ian

Thanks noseall
just wondering why they would need a lintel when the wall is sa supporting wall.
And why can't we look at the plans, can the council stop them, i'm away and know the guy at BC and will chat when i return but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

cheers

Ian

Slope?

Is it a timber framed structural wall?

hi Deluks
No the wall is a brick structural wall, the frontroom is on one side the kitchen on the other. The ceilings both slope towards the wall. I had a quick look and beliebve it's down to bad workmanship as did the surveyor. But the council want them to have a lintel put in along the top of this wall i'm led to believe.
Sorry if i am being a bit vague but i am getting info off people as i can't get to look at it to determine what is happening.
I thought that we could look at plans that the council hold on what people do to their houses.
thamks for the replies
Ian

If they didn't get building regs approval, the council won't have any drawings showing any detail as there were none submitted.

I guess that there is no foundation under the central wall that has now been loaded up , and they want a beam spanning side to side bearing on a known loadbearing structure

thanks guys

they have now submitted plans etc for approval to the council and it was they who have made them put in the lintel.
