I have an 1800mm lintel, and would like to create a 1520mm opening.
It will be supporting one course of bricks and then the eaves wall plate and roof structure of a 3.6m lean to roof.

I know that the minimum bearing is meant to be 150mm at either end, but given that i will be only 10mm short, would you worry about that?

Thanks
james

I would not worry about the bearing, but if it's a steel lintel, then I would consider whether it works with just one course of brick. Many require at least three before loading

Thanks for the replies.

I actually went and bought a bigger one today - we still haven't decided exactly what size doors we need so it made sense to put a bigger one in just in case!
