On a llsc , does the gas fire need to be removed so as to inspect the chamber and flue.Dont normally bother with these but times are getting harder.

I always remove the fire and closure plate when servicing a gas fire and CP12.

You then know if the catchment space is clear and can do a proper flue flow test. The new closure plate tape will also last another year then.

I have found numerous strange things in the catchment space, including dead pigeons etc

Dont normally bother

How can you check a fire is safe to use without removing it.

What do you actually do?

Surely if "work" has been carried out you must be checking the flue.

If you read it right he means he doesn't usually bother with safety cert's.
Can't blame him really.

A trainee had been with a local firm and had been to 11 LSCs and on NONE of them had ANY tests at all been done, not even a tightness test! They just filled in the forms.

Asking around, I have virtually never heard of any fire being taken off the wall ( as we are trained to do! ).

landlords are a pain.cant you just do this, NO, cant you just do that, NO.spend half your time trying to get away from jobs. They dont want to fork out their hard earned cash.lol In the past ive always removed fires , but have noticed others doing checks , just doing flue flow and spillage.

I know what he means, he means he doesn't check the catchment space is correct size, not full of debris, correctly sealed. Also that the flue is not partially blocked, doesn't bother to reseal the closure plate etc etc.

It makes no difference who the job is for IMHO

Can't blame him really.

I take it you don't bother either

Don't bother doing LSC's, I'm an installer not a cleaner!
By the way I think it's amazing how you can pick all this up from one post,
have you ever thought of giving up gas & getting a job in a fairground.

Nothing amazing about it. Its called logic.

Surely even an installer could work out that if you don't remove a fire how do you know whats behind it.

Why not?

scatmanjohn, your logic is obviously flawed. I didnt once mention that i didnt do llsc correctly , but also did mention if you cared to put your logic to one side and pick your reading glasses up , that i do it as i beleive to be correct i:e remove fires and inspect.whereas a lot of engineers seem to beleive a smoke and spillage test suffices. Oh , and , i accept your apology for your misinterpreted logical thoughts.

So, in that post you say, "Don't normally bother"

Are you saying you don't bother doing llsc.

If so, please accept my humble apologies.
