So my first time using loctite 55 cord. I replaced two radiators and previously I’ve always used ptfe tape with mostly good results sometimes a weep which I’ve had to redo but this time because of that slight failure rate I thought I’d try loctite 55 cord as everyone seems to highly praise it. Followed the instructions and it says 6 to 8 turns on 1/2”. I did the crisscrossing pattern and didn’t follow inside the thread grooves as most instructions say. And to be extra safe I smeared a coating of lsx over it tightened it and 24hrs later went to turn on the radiator and it’s weeping from both radiator tails where the loctite was used where the tail threads inside the radiator body itself

Not had that sort of failure rate with ptfe if I’m honest lol. I’m thinking maybe I’ve done something wrong.

Very tempted to just stick loctite 577 in it but that then becomes permanent and I won’t be able to remove the tail if I needed to in the future?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Update. So i loosens the main valve nut to allow myself the ability to then tighten the tail further. I managed to tighten it quite a bit further not with too much force but a bit of stiffness and now so far it seems to have stopped weeping. Will monitor it. I guess I didn’t want to overtighten and risk cracking anything. How do you actually know when it’s tight enough and when to stop?

Is it a problem to come back a day later after using loctite 55 and lsx then to tighten it further? Does it break any sealing it’s made?

Well you have managed to do what ive never seen after many thousand of threaded joints and get a leak with loctite 55!
We probably use more cord (don't bother counting) and tighten more .
No you can't do any damage nipping it up more.

Nowt wrong with PTFE tape IMHO - I use gas tape as it's thicker and needs fewer wraps - 6 >7. Had more issues with cord than I have with tape TBF. Found that it prefers the threads being chapped up a little.

No - 577 is semi permanent, it will crack and loosen with enough force applied.
