hi there ,anyone have any idea about fitting steels .I am currently having a loft conversion and have noticed the steels installed by the builder are just sitting on 2 bricks on the existing roof plate with a metal spreader plate in between should the spreader plate be welded to the beam, and should the bricks be fixed in anyway.Cheers

It should not be sitting on the timber; the bricks should be mortared-in, not loose-laid; the plate does not need welding to the beam.

Can you post a pic?

Your BCO would need to aprove this stage of work, why not give him a bell to let him know what your builder is getting up to?

Why not just ask the builder?

Also, was the beam detail not specified on some plans - can't you refer to these?

As Shy has said, the steel should not be point loaded onto the timber.

It is a pain in the ass, but the plate has to be cut and beam pads inserted.
