Can anyone tell me what the people who did this conversion have used to suspend the new trimmers an what size the trimmers should be. Also how the new floor is fixed to stop any movement back and forth, i'm assuming they have tied it to the wall but its not clear from the photo.

it looks like a bodge job to me.

what do you mean by "trimmers". the opening into the loft has a pair of trimmers, albeit inadequate because they should be doubled up.

the beam directly beneath the purlin is the only one i can see that is 'man' enough to be a floor joist over that span. is there a supporting wall beneath at mid-span?

is that the roofing lathes that are visible above the rafters?
