Hi, I am about to remove the loft floor to re-trim for new stairs. The architect has not specified a classification for the wood to use only that it matches the size of the current floor up there (45x145). I am going to use treated C16 grade and double up for the trimmers. Is this acceptable or will I need specific classification?

The size of any new joists are determined by their structural loading requirement not that they match the existing! What are the spans/layout?

Why don't you ask him? Was this done as a Full Plans Application?

/sigh

No it was not full plans. The span is less than 2.5m so I think C16 is okay.

Plus the joists will be doubled up as trimming around the stairs. However non of the spans are greater than 2.7m.
