Loft Insulation around the Flue Pipe?

Hi

I have a Valiant condensing boiler in an upstairs airing cupboard with a flue pipe that runs up into the loft and then across to a vent in the gable end.

I am about to add extra insulation to the loft.
On the vertical section of the flue pipe where it passes through the ceiling into the loft, can the insulation touch the pipe or should there be a gap around it? The pipe does not appear to get hot, so can I run the insulation right up to the pipe?

(It's only the vertical section, the rest of the horizontal pipe will still be above the insulation)

Thanks

The way balanced flues are made, there is an inner tube, that the hot exhaust gases blow out of, which is centred in a larger outer tube, down which cold fresh air is drawn. This means the outer tube does not carry hot gas, and in any case the modern boiler absorbs the heat out of the exhaust as much as it can.

So unlike a conventional chimney flue, yours will not get hot.

Mineral wool loft insulation is not flammable, too.
