Hi,
I'm looking to make a raised platform with loft boards, for storing relatively light stuff. (archive files, old toys, etc)
I know the standard practice for loft boarding is to fit joists across the existing joists, however our loft has had extra insulation fitted on the joists, (to 30cm thickness) and I don't want to compress it.
Our roof has "fink" (W) trusses. Does anyone see any problems with attaching 1x4 timbers either side of the trusses (ie parallel) raised to allow clearance above the insulation, with timber of the same size as the truss members (35x70mm) screwed in between for strength? This would be with enough clearance so the insulation is not compressed.
Loft boards would be laid across
It's not for walking on (but could you, for access?)
Many thanks,
Capt TickTock.
