Just had a loft ladder installed and looking to possibly DIY the insulation and boarding.

i have no idea when it comes to which types of materials i need in order to board the loft, but i was wondering if my insulation will be 200mm above the rafters then will i need the stilts to be at least 200mm in height also, so that i dont condense/squash the insulation?

if anybody could guide me to the correct products that i need i would much appreciate it. Thanks

Timber joists laid perpendicular to your existing are structurally better as they will spread the load more evenly. But if that doesn't bother you then buy the stilts wherever you get the best price. They#re all much of a muchness.

i personally don't like stilts for 2 reasons as said above they don't spread the load
also the span between 2 parallel 400mm timbers is 400mm
if you set legs in a 400x400mm grid the span increases by 44% to 575 as the span is now the diagonal between any two legs
