Hey all

We have this area in our loft room behind the access door that id like to try and sound proof and draught proof as it’s both noisy and gets the draughts . Any ideas what’s the best option to use? I was thinking of getting some thin insulation board and then board over on top of the rafters. Not much room to move in there so really not sure if it’s worthwhile. It runs the whole side of the house , and our bed is on the other side of the wall.

Any ideas are welcome thanks

Kings span or super quilt could be used but you need to take advice. Don't want any condensation

What's the noise from?

I would be using rigid insulation boards between the rafters. Either a combination of insulation and soundproofing boards, or one that does both.

I'm not sure I would board over, as you will lose a lot of space, but I guess it depends if you will ever use the space. You can get soundproofing boards as well I think.

Noise is from the road , fairly busy road . You put your head in there and I could be sitting on the roof . Just the tiles and a membrane stopping it.

Don’t really use the space but concerned about putting in soundproofing boards or insulation and causing condensation due to lack of airflow .

Thanks

Sound blocking plaster board is useless on it own. They need to be fitted to resilient bars or they don't block sound.

Sounds like it would definitely be worth doing.

I don't think condensation will be an issue. You probably aren't generating humid air in there, and if it's well insulated, the air won't be able to get to a cold surface.

Will you be doing the work yourself?
