Loft ventilation with photos

This is my loft, build circa 2005. The green you can see in the last photo is my lawn. As someone who is totally clueless, that doesn’t seem normal? I know the roof needs ventilation but I thought that was via vent tiles? So is this normal? It’s all the way around the loft apart from the gable (?) ends. Any knowledge much appreciated.

Looks like soffit ventilation , nothing unusual , roof design dictates why style of venting is used .
