We have an extension on our house and the resulting part of the roof space is fairly inaccessible. I was thinking of using some kind of loose fill insulation to insulate it.

Does anyone have any recommendations about what type of loose fill to use, equipment required, etc.

Any help gratefully received!

Warmcel (recycled paper) is one of the best loose fill insulations to use. Warmcel for DIY is bagged and you empty the bags out in your loft. If you want it blown in, I think you'll have to pay an installer.

But, assuming you have a pitched/apex roof on the extension, it's going to be difficult to install without some form of access to the the loft space. You can't get sound coverage blowing the insulation through a small nozzle hole when you can't see what you're doing.

Basically, you need to install a loft hatch. Only alternatives are to take part of the roof off or insulate below the ceiling in the rooms underneath the loft.

So, after you've built the loft hatch, you can buy the loose fill in bags and empty it into the loft . . . remembering to turn the light off and insulate and draught proof the hatch door on your way out.
