Lost PC, what was on the hard drive?

Took in a PC for repair, it seems it may have been disposed of, I am sure I backed up all, but it may have had documents saying what people owes me, and other items, which I regard as sensitive, possibly passwords etc. The list of passwords together with my address etc, is not something I want others to access.

The shop has closed down, but the firm is still going, but some 50 miles away now. I may have deleted all sensitive files, but around 4 months ago I took it in, so can't remember.

Blimey, not something I would have left on the drive. I suppose you have contacted the firm?

That was rather silly of you...

Why couldn't you repair it yourself?

Even if you couldn't do that, you could have taken the drive out, for security, before parting with it.

I once bought a laptop in auction, which was one of a number of identical ones, supposedly new, surplus. On getting it home I found it had been a school teacher's laptop, and included a mass of personal information, pupil names, marks, their home addresses etc., but not enough information to trace the actual school. I complained to the auction company, selling it as a suggested new laptop, explaining the data it contained, got a discount, and left it at that - deleting the data.

Could cost thousands in compensation claims!

It was returned to be repaired under warrantee, to remove hard drive would invalidate warrantee, and when left, I was expecting to get it back.
