Hi,

First of all, I apologise if this is the how to sub-forum.

I am looking to remove a ceiling as it is on the verge of failing (first floor) which leads to the loft space; however, I want to lower the ceiling in the room.

It's currently about 3.5m and I want to reduce the head height as the new ceiling would have to bend near the outer wall, I'll need to lower it about a foot/foot and a half.

Should I just do joist hangers, a few wood beams and plasterboard, or is there a better solution?

Just bought a house so I'm pretty new to DIY things.

Thanks,

Lee

Hang joists from the structural walls and take the opportunity to insulate the space ( including any external wall.) That said a tall ceiling offers good storage space. There are fire safety structural and insulation implications under the building regs so run your proposals past them first
