I have a Flymo HT 600 hedge cutter and whilst in full flow cutting my hedge yesterday, it slowed up to about half speed, making a bit of a "groaning" noise but no burning smell.

The brushes seem to be adequate, about 8 mm long, and there is no sign of any burning.

I have just used it again on another hedge and it performed perfectly for about 10 mins then slowed up again. It was plugged in to two different sockets, the plug on cable is "factory sealed" type, but I did change the fuse for a new one.

Any ideas whats wrong with it. (its about 15 months old)

Thanks 2

I would suggest it needs lubricating, a light machine oil 3-in-one is suitable.
It's probably the sap from the hedge thats gumming it up, and unless the fuse has blown, changing it will not make any difference to the hedgecutter speed.

Thanks for reply, but blades fully lubricated. Fuse changed in case old one had "intermittent" fault. (I know grasping at straws)

Also if blades were sticking, I think there would have been some motor overheating /and burning type smell but none were present.

Would a faulty capacitor cause the problem?--- dont know much about electrics!

Thanks
