Here's a fun one. I have a customer, who's kitchen needs turning into a bathroom, however - The main incoming electric cable, service head and meter are all located in a wooden cupboard in that room (The CU is already in another room). Now it would be rather stupid to leave it there as it's to become a bathroom. Scottish power want just over a Thousand quid to relocate the cable 10" to the other side of the wall. (including their excavation costs etc. - fair enough) but the homeowners budget has been eaten up so they don't want to pay that sort of money. Is it possible that the incoming cable and service head could be enclosed in a high IP (66?) Rated box, accessible only by a key or screwdriver, which in turn is in a locked cabinet, and feed the tails through the wall to the relocated meter? I'm aware that it isn't ideal - but some advice, rather than the obvious 'get it moved' would be greatly appreciated. Scottish power said 'they can't MAKE them move it'. But I know that when I call in the spark he may refuse to touch it unless the incoming is relocated.

It might be worth ringing Scottish Power and asking them if they could suggest a setup that they would be happy with. I'm assuming that this is a bog standard kind of bathroom and not a wet room etc...

Cant it be whacked through the wall and put into a meter box? Not that easy?

Why is the DNO excavating? Is it a public highway directly outside?

Excavation in garden to expose the cable to enable jointing. I found out that the price doesn't include the excavation but i can do it myself. I think it's a bit steep though @ £955.00.

Why 'not that easy'... Hole drilled and new tails to new meter location. Meter will have to be moved by united utilities, but aside from that it's only the sub-mains that has to be re-routed / renewed.

I'm pretty much asking for opinions on the viability of using an IP66 enclosure to house the service head and DP switch. It will be outside zone 2 in a standard bathroom, not a wet-room.

Cheers for the replies Chaps.
