Maintained light

Non-maintained emergency lighting is designed to turn on in the event of a power failure. It is linked into the building’s lighting circuitry and reacts to a power failure ensuring emergency exit routes remain illuminated. This type of emergency lighting is mostly found in the workplace, such as offices and factories, where people are familiar with the escape routes.

Maintained lighting is designed to be lit continuously and will continue to work even in the event of a power failure. This allows the unit to double as a standard light fitting but still supply the necessary backup in the event of a power outage. This type of emergency lighting is suitable for public places such as theatres, shopping malls and cinemas.

One day some clever tech geek will invent a search engine where this kind of information can be found.

bugger..

So you can't switch a maintained one on and off like a normal light ?
You can, theres usually only 1 permanent supply to the fitting, inside there is usually 2 terminals linked across with a wire link, you remove that link and wire your switch across the 2 terminals, the lamp will then switch on and off, whilst the permanent supply keeps the thing charging constantly

MAINTAINED MODEL ONLY: NOTE: To convert the maintained fitting to non maintained operation, remove the link between terminals “L” and “LI”. NOTE: If the lamp is to be switched, remove the link from between the terminals “L” and “LI” and connect cable from your switch into ‘LI’.
