Yes, Mussolini started off as a socialist before WW1. Then he moved to the far right. That is actually what I originally thought you meant. But then you linked to the article which claimed that fascists were actually left wing.

So it seems we are agreed? Mussolini was originally a socialist (left wing) who later moved to the extreme right and became a fascist.

I originally thought I had understood what you meant in #76 i.e. he was a former socialist.

But then you muddled things by posting an article which claimed that fascists are actually left wing. So, that confused me.

It's OK. It all seems clear now and we all agree. Mussolini was a former socialist who moved to the extreme right and became a fascist. I am happy to leave it there.

What did Hitler do that Stalin didn't ? they may have been at opposite ends of so called left and right, but their policies and actions were very similar.

Extreme left and extreme right have completely different ideologies. But some of the mechanisms they use to enforce them can look similar at a superficial level.
