I want a list of all the files in a folder, ordered by date, in another file.
Is there a way from within WIndows? (XP)

I can do it from the Command Prompt, but can't Order the output. Is there an "order by" filter?

In explorer, goto to "view" then "details" - if the date is not shown, Right click on "date" select "date created", a new title will appear called "date" left click and they will go to date order.

Sure but the order the command-prompt command comes up with is different.

SO is there a way to output (to a file or printer) the directory listing (=folder contents)?

Also lookup 'Redirection in Dos' (>) ...

That was it, the /O switch. Thanks, empip. Sad they never put this sort of stuff into Windows.

I'd got about where I wanted by using the redirection > to a file, and sorting it as a Table in Word.

All very easy in C or Unix, but that bit of brain died years ago!
