hi all,

I need to make a hole from kitchen to outside for a new sink waste pipe - (inch and a quarter?) - the wall is i think plaster, then breeze block, then brick (60s built flat block). I've got some long masonary bits, and was going to attempt drilling a series of holes but can't imagine they would end up straight enough, plus how would I knock out the remaining . . .

any ideas? plus, the waste pipe I hve is grey, but I've neverseen grey used on an exterior - is this just asthetics or is the white pipe a different grade?

thanks!

hammer and chisel inside...then take a datum thru a nearby window to find the position of the hole outside.....been, done, t-shirt....better hire a core drill  ...grey outside ? lead springs to mind

so I need to hire a core drill then?

regarding the pipe, I meant I have plenty of grey plastic pipe, can i use that outside?

thanks!

Just been knocking out a hole for a washing machine waste myself. A core drill will make a tidier job.

Not having one, I drilled about half a dozen holes in the end two inches of a brick outside, and a few holes in the mortar, knocked the end off the brick with a cold chisel, then continued through the inner leaf with an 8mm X 400mm drill in four places from outside, and 'joined the dots' from inside with the chisel.

Now, does anybody sell 56Kg bags of filler? :(

when peppering use a long 8-12mm masonry bit as your central hole and pepper around to just larger than diameter of pipe with similar sized but shoreter bit as suggested. any snots can be removed witha cold chisel and lump hammer. Exercise caution if using a core drill!!! M  ake sure you use one with a good clutch or you might find yourself spinning around when the core bit snags!!!!

Sand and cement is sold in most DIY outlets in small bags or use expanding foam and external filler.

cheers guys - I checked out hiring a core drill at hss - over 40 quid for a day so methinks I'll be using the messier method - there's nothing that can't be made good with enough filler . . .

on the grey vs white pipe - I'm guessing its just asthetics??

thanks again . .
