Makita 8391d fault

My Makita drill/driver is faulty. The motor turns fine. The chuck does not when in low speed forward gear. It turns in every other speed and direction. When I hold the chuck it sounds as though the clutch is slipping or the gears are not engaging. Help!
 
Have you tried lubricating the speed selector lever. They sometimes don't engage the gears properly if they are stiff
