Makita 8391d fault

[nothing is simple]

My Makita drill/driver is faulty. The motor turns fine. The chuck does not when in low speed forward gear. It turns in every other speed and direction. When I hold the chuck it sounds as though the clutch is slipping or the gears are not engaging. Help!

That is a pre li ion battery model so quite old. It could be wear in the gears. Not economical to repair even assuming spares are available.

Have you tried lubricating the speed selector lever. They sometimes don't engage the gears properly if they are stiff
