I have a Makita track saw (SP6000K1) which is now about 2.5 years old - I have been very happy with it and it's been pretty much flawless.

Lately the plunge action has gone very stiff and now won't retract (raise back up) at the end of the cut - I tried WD40 on the pin that it seems to pivot on and can see no obvious signs of blockage or build up etc.

Any suggestions?

been dropped/bashed /heavy load fallen on it and bent something??
in general you have several pivots and a spring to counteract gravity so little to give you friction in plunge
i would examine in fine detail looking for miss alignment scratches bent bits and dents

Definitely not been dropped or mis-used in any way - just got stiffer and stiffer over the last month or so.

i havent got a clue really just guessing as i have the dewalt 18v plunge
has the plunge depth stop worked loose can you remove it or loosen it ??
i would try and remove the blade and as much off the gaurd as well as the riving knife if fitted
you could also try to loosen anything you can to free up movement
trying the plunge action after ever removal
