OK,, so read lots of posts with varying in depth explanations. For reasons required i have blocked window up in downstairs cloakroom so want to fit a timed fan.. Small issue, instructions require 3 amp fused for live and switched live. I am planning to wire in as per sketch as it seems to be the simplest way with minimal fuss and least amount of switches. I was looking to replace DP PULL with DP wall mount. with Can anyone advise if I am missing anything.? or indeed a more suitable way to get this done. Live feed etc will be from ceiling rose... Cheers

Do the instructions specifically say the switched live must be fused?

It seems to be accepted now that only the permanent live requires fusing.

And I quote from the included paperwork

"The fan MUST be connected to a double pole fused spur having a contact separation of at least 3mm in all poles. It must be used and fitted with a 3 amp fuse, and should be sited outside any room containing a shower etc etc ..."

so in answer its not clear..

The diagram is fine. So is using a wall mounted DP switch instead of a pull cord type.

The alternative is for those instructions to be accidentally lost and the FCU neither considered or installed.

By the time I'd finished and got round to read the instructions it was too late...

Thanks all, will decide at weekend to go whole hog or direct from ceiling rose. Decisions decisions......

if you take the switched live for the light from the switch you can use a single pole switch.

The fuse going will take out the light as well though, but in a cloakroom that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

or you could use a 3 gang gridswitch plate with
- 3A fuse
- DP secret key switch for isolation
- SP light switch for light and trigger

It will if you can't stop the fuse from blowing until you've removed the fan, because then you'd have to work in the dark.

There's a reason for having all-pole isolators on fans.

Your idea is a bad one.

So first option should be more beneficial as SFCU can be turned off to replace Fan without affecting light in dark and dingy closet.....
