Hi Guys,

I'm going to be fitting 12mm 400x600 travertine tiles in my new bathroom fairly soon. My tiler has advised me to fit Marmox boards due to the weight of the tile. This is fine as the plaster on the walls has blown in quite a few areas so will need to be removed anyway. I've got 3 solid walls which I'm going to dot,dab and anchor plus one stud wall.

My question is whether 12.5mm board will be ok for the size of tile as their website isn't clear. My tiler isn't sure either as the walls are already in place when he is called in. I have read on a forum somewhere that it should be 20mm but I can't seem to find it again.

Any input you guys have would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Dr A

The minimum thickness on the Marmox boards depends on the span of your stud work.
10mm boards max 300mm span
12mm boards max 400mm span
20mm boards max 600mm span
also all board edges must be supported ie have noggins

Hope this helps
