Match existing carpet colour

We're extending our house and want to match our existing carpet colour. I've got some samples online but none match so it's a bit of a guessing game. Before I order the next batch (which now I have a baseline to compare based with what I see on screen) are there any tips on matching carpets to existing ones.

I don't want to pull up the carpet, but is it likely that the pattern may be printed on the underside?

Only ever seen pattern name on samples never carpet. Do you have a local independent carpet shop? They may be willing to come out and look if you are willing to buy from them if they can match.

Thanks Footprints, no local indies but there is a Carpetright so that'll have to do, they do seem to offer a home visit service.
