Guys

Our current exterior walls are pebbledash finish, something we don’t like. We are currently getting our extension done under PD and would really like to have new exterior finish with red bricks.
Our consent letter from the council says that all materials used in any exterior work shall be of a similar appearance, unsure if we can have the desired finish?
Cheers

Brick is not the same material is it? You could do smooth render OK but brick is too dissimilar. You run the risk of someone complaining and the LA writing to you asking to submit a planning application. Can it be seen from the roadside or do you think it will get your neighbours backs up and they may complain?

That said, if you did it in brick and did ever got any strife off the LA then you could just say you will render it, when funds permit of course ..... ;)

Hummm, as it’s a rear extension so can't be seen from the roadside, as for my neighbours, we get on really well(both side) so unlikely either will complain.
BTW in the highly unlikely event of us choosing to go for the brick option would BC has any issue/saying over this or this would have any implication for us getting the lawful development certificate?

Oh yes If I ever got any strife off the LA then naturally i will agree to render it,
Cheers

No, generally BC and planning do not communicate, in true LA style! And BC rarely take notice of planning drawings anyway.

Either that, or he was making a very subtle, clever joke..
