well to be honest, if I needed to draw a straight line (freehand is definately out in my case!) I would pick up the nearest straight edge too!

Looks like an Argand diagram but can't think where we used them in C&G2391? I am sure we must have covered power factor correction but can't remember doing it.

But the type of X points to coding which does not seem to fit in with diagram!

Which tends to make me think this was more to do with Art and a photography class than with Electrics?
