Whenever I'm out an about I always take note of various building details etc.... recently I'm seeing more and more MDF being used as a direct replacement for plasterboard.

One example, new hotel nr Leeds. Large sections of wall have been built with MDF sheets, screw holes filled and painted straight over with emulsion. In another part of the same building, curved partitions have been done with MDF.

If I were to build them my instinct would have been to use plasterboard but the MDF looks just the same.

Is this getting more and more common?

Can be common in offices & commercial buildings where speed is more critical than looks but, personally, I would never buy a house that used MDF or dry lined & filled (no plaster skim); in fact I wouldn’t buy a house with stud walls period!
