Does anyone know when changes were introduced in MEB sizes?

Did they come into being in the 14th?

What size did they start at and when were they increased?

I have seen 2.5 on pipework before now - is that the smallest?

Got ambushed by a retired lecturer in electrical engineering today who insisted on the history of electrical installation from 1882 to the present day...

Wanted to know when 4mm² MEB's went out of standard.

Yeah, I think he was testing me about how much I knew.

But then I got to thinking: it might be good to know these things anyway!

You want to get a copy of this

my house is 18 years old and has a 10mm main bond from new, so older than that!

dont know why i remember this but a guy that did his apprentiship 30 odd years ago said that in oxfordshire they used 6mm but in northamptonshire they were using 10mm. strange!
