Hi,

I’ve got a 2012 Mercedes C220 2.2tdi sport with the auto box.
It’s coming upto 130,000 miles and still drives sweet although I’ve read that the gear box needs a service at 100k???

Is this just a Mercedes thing or is it something I need to do to get another 130k trouble free miles out of it?

Cheers

They claim to be sealed for life as a selling point but most people recommend an oil and filter change mid life.

Thanks Dave, when you say mid life does that have any mileage attached??

A fluid change at 100k is definitely worth it.....that needs to include a new filter which is inside the gearbox sump pan. Make sure the correct Merc fluid is used!

Thanks John,

I’ve check with a few places and no one wants to do it, they all keep saying to go to Merc direct!
Been quoted £380 to have it done which is proably allot cheaper than the repair to a gear box!

Cheers

That sounds crazy just for a transmission oil change - unless there's something we don't know about
Consider finding an independent Merc specialist?

Somewhere between 50k and 70k seems to be the recommendation. As you can't drain all the fluid from the torque convertor some say you need to change the fluid more than once which may explain the cost. I have read of somewhere who have a means of doing a complete flush but don't know how it's done.

I had mine done, and a new gearbox base which includes the filter, at 64k. It's not a Merc.

I'm told they attach a hose to the "in" and "out" and feed in clean new fluid until the dirty old stuff is all flushed out.
