Hello all,

I have had a new patio door installed on a property I rent and I am slightly disapointed with the fitting. The property is over 100 miles aways so I have not seen it first hand however my father in law has taken a look and sent me some pictures... he is not impressed with the job.

After initial installation and inspection by father inlaw I was told there was a hole in the mortar which the sill is bedded on. I phone the company and they went round and said it had sunk back abit and filled it with mastic. (I was assuming they would fill the gaps with more mortar) The end result looks messy and is not quite what I was expecting for the £900 its costing.

However, Im fairly sure you cannot see the mess unless you bend down and look underneath the sill.... see attached photos. The rest of the door looks ok.

I am just after some advise or opinions as to what people think? not much can be done anyway as silicone wont come off the bricks easily. I haven't paid yet and my father in law thinks I should speak to the company about it...

Many thanks for any advice...

Is it a French door? Anyway, not much you can do now as silicone is a barsteward to get off. If the gaps were huge they should have really put some compo under there.

If you can't see it from standing in the garden/sitting in a chair then I wouldn't worry about it but agreed it does look shyte. Have u any other pics of the install?

May be worth asking for a discount because you are not happy.

Thanks for the reply, please see attached picture of the whole door... its a sliding one... overall it looks ok, we're are just a bit disapointed at the care taken over mortar. I need to check with the company that the sill is bedded on enough mortar to support it and not supported by silicone!

the other thing that occurs to me is it is a thinner door that the old one so it has been recessed back to meet the plaster board inside... I'm a little concerned it may not be supported on the outer leaf of bricks

Its looks like quite a newish build so you'd probably have a catnic lintel in there, silicone does look a bit messy but its always difficult to seal under cills, with a new tube of silicone in your gun it can be 2ft long and arkward to get the correct angle to do a neat seal

The only time you will see that is after crawling home drunk ... but you wont remember it the next day
