I have been told by quite a few people that using Peanut Butter is a really good bait both in Humane and the other types of traps
I've heard that.

Chocolate too.

I believe cheese is one of the least successful baits there is.
 
Get a cat. Simple and efficient and long lasting solution.

Hah. We live in the country and used to get mice in the house all the time. That is, one of our cats would bring in 5 or 6 every week, which would either get eaten, or escape and take up residence. Since the demise of both cats, we haven't had a single mouse in the house. Don't get a cat for the reason of eliminating mice ;-)
