Micro-encapsulated bolts

Need to remove the front wing of my car as some oik as kicked it. The manual say the bolts should be replaced as they are micro-encapsulated.

Is this really required or can I just clean up the threads and use some Loctite?

It's not a cost thing, it's just the parts mamager at my local dealer is a disagreeable sort of a fellow and I like to avoid him if possible! :D
 
One for the boffins (or anoraks) this one.....you find microencapsulated bolts when you fit new disc pads etc (i.e locking compound is ready applied to the bolt threads) but why you would need these on a car wing is beyond me.
Anyway, if it was mine I'd use the same bolts, wire brush the threads and reassemble using liquid loctite.
There again, what do I know! Which car is this?

It's an Audi A6. There are 7 bolts around the sides and bottom of the wing and then 3 on top. It's the top 3 that it says must be replaced. The text from the manual is:

6 - Combi bolt -15 Nm

Note
The combi bolt is gradually being converted from the hexagon head type to the Torx T30 socket type.
These bolts and washers are micro-encapsulated and must be replaced after being unfastened or following wing removal.

I can't see why. Think I'll give the Loctite a shot, if the wing falls off I'll know better for next time :lol:
 
Well, who knows the real reason for this - and I bet the body shops don't either!
Like you, I'd go for the loctite - but the real items shouldn't cost much.
