I have a rather old built-in AEG Microwave oven FX30Z/EX30Z.

This evening it caught fire inside, not apparantly due to what we had done or put in there.
When switching on with nothing in the oven, after a few seconds sparks seem to be coming from the units floor.

I assume the appliance is now redundant, am I correct?

Thanks.

Could be a build up of carbon deposits - often this happens on the wave guide cover which can result in a loud bang / flames etc.. Just take the old cover (assuming it is damaged and easily removable from the chamber) to a small domestics shop they will cut a new piece to fit.
Clean all areas make sure there are no sharp metal edges etc...
