Anyone know whether a scratch - about 2"- on the floor of a microwave (caused by a friend's too-enthusiastic cleaning with a brillo!) and now covered with white tape would make the microwave less than safe to use? I've asked several helplines but none will tell me.

i dont know thje answer

but if your talking removed the paint finnish and leaving the metal intact but naked i can't see it mattering unless its caused some sort of deformation in the door area!!!!

dont think tape will help as the glue may cook and stink

No, it won't hurt but as said, remove the tape. You could just leave it scratched or if it bothers you, touch it up with a small car paint chip brush on touch up thingy.

Many thanks both fido and big-all - I thought the tape would protect in some way - thinking that the 'skin' had been damaged somehow but I'm sure I don't understand the principle of how a microwave is dangerous. Is the only danger provided by the door seal being damaged then? I see your point about the tape getting sticky
