Hi, we have got a built-in microwave which has gone wrong, but we have been given an expensive quote for fixing it, and it seems a new built-in microwave is also very expensive.
However we took it out of its hole and actually the one we have looks very much like an ordinary non built-in model, except with a separate sort of cowl thing on the top connecting the back of the microwave with the opening at the front, which is presumably for ventilation, and a sort of frame round the front to give a neat finish.
So what we were wondering is whether it is possible to just buy a cheaper, free-standing one and put it into the gap, using the same cowl thing on top if necessary for ventilation, or whether that is likely to cause problems? It wouldn't look so smart of course, but as we are trying to economise at the moment we are less fussed about that than spending lots of extra cash. Any thoughts?
Thank you!
