I was rendering in an RAF site a few years back, about 3 months sand and cement for tiles.

We had to do all the checks, go through armed checkpoints etc every day, could not look out at parade ground and had to stop work for their square bashing.

Then one day I saw a bloke strolling out of the woods behind the base, with a tesco bag in his hand, walking through through the base.

I asked about it and was told that there was a right of way running through the base, and people would often cut through !

thats crazy , there could have been a bomb in that bag how can there be a right of way through an raf base when they have all this so called security, i was offered the chance to work on tidworth army base a few years back and on the first day i was told you can take your tools in and leave them there as the next day you had to go in by bus so u had to leave your van somewhere off ground i thought f that 2 much hassle, i was told by another spread that the work in there had looked like it had been applied with a spoon, any way this army base is a bit closer still in another town, still a bit of traveling involved just hope my arm is ok by then

Lots of military area have rights of way,the general public are entitled to access their right to use the right of way however there are vey clear rules in place.

Having worked at one such place as a member of The military you must let them through, they are however escorted along the route. Any deviation from the right of way even if it means stepping of a road onto the pavement is an offence under military law,which when on military property evening is subjected to.it always ends in people being locked up until Te civilian police arrive to escort them from the base.

Sole people walkin through bases that are un uniformed regardless of what they carry will find themselves being challenged,even with loaded weapons pointed at them.

Right of way or not,they soon learn it's not worth the hassle to walk it.
