I am converting a garage into a utility room with a shower room.

There will be 1 window for the utility room and 1 window for the shower room.

I believe the builder measured wrongly. The utility cabinet that houses the boiler now extends beyond the window space so I see 3/4 of the window from inside which is a real eye sore.

The builder claims that there is only 11/2 block space between the windows (see photo) so he can't move the window over even more.

He says if the windows are less than 11/2 blocks apart, the support will not be strong enough and constant opening and closing of either windows will likely cause cracks in the walls.

I can't find anything advising what the recommended minimum space should be between 2 windows.

Does anyone have any advise or a solution for this?

Thank you

Cheap solution: Don’t put the boiler in a cabinet

More expensive solution: narrower window, wall built out and plastered to edge of cabinet width

Can't you reduce the dept of the boiler cabinet?

You get the builder to build what you want, what he priced for and knew about, not what he wants or what mistakes he does not want to correct.

He is talking rubbish about not being able to fit the windows.

Why did you not build that wall in matching bricks?
Is any part of the house front rendered?
Bricks would've been virtually maintenance free for decades, render a lot less.
There are heavy front doors attached to a brick width and nothing cracks.
The frame gets the hit.
Builder is talking boll@x.
