Hi everyone,
My Miras Realm quite suddenly stopped supplying hot water. The problem could either be a blocked inlet filter or it could be a failed cartridge. What do you think is the most likely? Any help would be appreciated.

1. Given that it has stopped suddenly my opinion is that it is more likely to be a filter / non-return valve than the cartridge.
2. If its an exposed mixer shower, the filter and non-return valve are in the inlet elbow. Isolate the hot and cold supplies, unscrew the elbows and clean / de-scale the filter and non-return valves.
3. If this doesn't work, it may be the cartridge.
4. However, if you are on a combi boiler, a restriction in the hot inlet could mean insufficient flow occurs to fire the boiler.
5. I'd suggest you try (in order):
5.1 Cleaning / de-scaling the filters and non-return valves.
5.2 Try running the shower with the inlet elbows removed (i.e. turn hot and cold back on, make arrangements for water diversion so you don't flood the place). If the hot pipe now runs hot, it isn't a boiler problem.
5.3 Replace the thermostatic cartridge - expensive!
6. A photo of the shower and details of the hot water system would be helpful.

Thanks for your info. The boiler is delivering hot water to the bath and basin taps so can it be a boiler defect?

Sorry for the delay. The boiler is Worcester Green Star 25si compact NG condensing combi. It's my daughter's and the problem occurred immediately after she used the bath (first time in a very long time) She turned on the shower after her bath and couldn't get any hot water. My son thinks it might be an air lock brought on by the use of the bath taps.

1. If it's a combi, then hot and cold will be at, or very close to, mains pressure. This makes an airlock much less likely, though not impossible.
2. My first guess remains a non-return valve / filter problem.
3. A photograph of the shower might be a great help.
4. Is the shower above the bath or is it a separate shower cubicle?

Thanks for taking the trouble to help me. The shower is above the bath - I'll try and get my daughter to email me a photo.
