Hi There,

I have a microbore system and a primatic cylinder. I also have one out of my 5 radiators not working (in my freezing bathroom). All rads are on the same floor and are only a few metres from the boiler. When I turn the heating on - then I go through and feel the feed pipe - it heats up nice and quick - and so does the adjacent return pipe, it seems like its just not going through the radiator. I have tried bleeding the rad and even a few trusty hits, but no joy (though the bleed was very very black and thick but soon cleared to almost clear). Any advice?? could it be the valve or the radiator?? is there a good additive that i could add to the tank?

I think it happened after a summer of having the valve turned 'off' which in hindsight i probably shouldnt have done!! :?

Thanks A lot!

A Primatic cylinder in my own experience is often responsible for a rather sludged up heating system.

It sounds as if your rad is rather blocked up. It probably needs power flushing or severe cleaning. You might be able to get it sorted out by turning off each rad valve in turn ( if you have two ) and bleeding until its clear.

What I dont understand is why you need heating at this time of year and why your bathroom is "freezing". My problem is keeping cool enough!

In many ways it would be better to get your system sorted out properly with a nice indirect cylinder.

Thanks Tony  Im in USA just now, but the problem happened 6 months ago, just before I left a freezing glasgow, im about to move back and remembered I will need to get it fixed for my next winter in a stone cold tenement flat! aarg

Ill look into power flushing - that sounds kind of fun! Like something you do after a big curry?.

Cheers
